Summit Entertainment has released November 20, 2009 as the tentative release date for the New Moon movie. They also speak of an offer out to Chris Weitz (director of The Golden Compass and American Pie), to direct New Moon. He still has not confirmed the position, but previous conversations with New Moon crew members, not to mention the fact that the director has 5 days from today to get to Vancouver to begin preproduction, hint that the choice is pretty much made. I can't speak for everyone, but I thought the Golden Compass movie was a pretty good adaptation of the book, and the crew paid a lot of attention to detail. If Weitz does direct... well no one can argue that it won't be different, but his reputation plus an increased budget precede his name, and I have high hopes for the film.
