Royce King is Going to Die

Rosalie Hale was raped, beaten, and left to die. Royce King thinks he's above the law and can get away with it. But a born-again, stronger, more beautiful Rosalie has other ideas. Royce and his friends are about to get theirs. And vengeful newborn vampires don't play nice.

reddmummy's pre-Twilight fanfiction piece, Vengeance, is from the notorious Royce King's point of view. Unfinished at seven chapters, the author has begun a story full of arrogance, terror, and cold-blooded revenge. The piece reads almost like a ghost story, chilling and adding clues as is goes on. Royce starts out as confident and unfeeling, saying after the rape of his fiancee, "I had taken Rosalie first and last. I had so enjoyed the look of uncomprehending terror in her eyes the first time, and the smug feeling of superiority the second time." But as his friends begin dying one by one, Royce becomes a haunted man. As he begins to understand what's happening he thinks, "I knew that Rosalie was coming for me, stalking me, trying to drive me to madness with fear and paranoia first." Desperate to hide from what he fears is coming for him; Royce tries to make his escape. But a cruel rapist doesn't stand a chance against a vampire. Too bad for you , Royce.

Vengeance is fantastic. Well-written, great character development, and exceptional description all add to this chilling tale. Royce is presented as dark and cruel, evil even, in his unapologetic rape of his innocent fiancee. Even as Royce gets desperate and terrified, the reader will never feel sorry for him. Instead, readers will be waiting for reddmummy to finish her story and finally see Rosalie get the justice she deserves. Vengeance will make you think forgiveness is overrated.
