Interview with Brian Leaf, author of "Defining Twilight"

Please check out the amazing interview with Brian Leaf.

Here is a sample from the website:

"Each chapter of the workbook gives you eight words taken from Twilight and even incorporates some text from the novel. How will learning vocabulary words in the context of Twilight be different from learning them the old way with flash cards?

Learning from Twilight is more interesting and more engaging than learning from flash cards. Plus students will truly remember the words once they associate them with scenes or characters in Twilight. It might be tough to remember that “affable” means “friendly and easy to be around,” but it’s easy to remember it once you make the connection that jacob is affable. Here are more: Emmett is burly, Edward’s eyes are ocher colored after he eats, Carlisle is urbane, and Jessica is verbose.

Peter Facinelli praised your book saying that he “…never would have believed that students could study vocabulary and enjoy a great book like Twilight at the same time, but Brian Leaf makes it possible!” What do you think makes it easier for students to study with Defining Twilight than other SAT (or standardized test) prep books?

Students are already reading Twilight, and as Peter said, now they can read it and learn the vocab while they read. It’s a great perk.

You recently announced a contest asking fans to submit an essay (or fan fiction) using 8 vocabulary words from the first chapter of Defining Twilight and the final submissions are due at the end of this month. What are you looking for in submissions?

The submissions will be judged on correct usage of the eight vocabulary words, creativity, and clear communication of ideas, as well as, of course, correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation.

Defining New Moon is currently available on Amazon for pre-order. Can you tell us a little bit about it?

After I read Twilight, I checked out New Moon and was again impressed that it contained great SAT-type vocab and even had tons of great words that were not in Twilight. So Defining New Moon is set up just like Defining Twilight, but with many new vocab words and with review of the most important words from Defining Twilight."
